When Should I Start Preparing For Orthodontic Treatment?
The American Association of Orthodontics recommends patients see an orthodontist by the age of 7, the age when it's most important to ensure the teeth are properly growing in. At a young age, minor orthodontic procedures like baby teeth removal, the use of limited braces to close gaps in the teeth, or using an oral appliance to correct a crossbite or treat sleep apnea can be beneficial.
In most cases, orthodontic appointments with our youngest patients are designed to help our team monitor and prepare patients - and parents - for potentially needing braces and other orthodontic solutions after permanent teeth have arrived. Usually, a child's permanent teeth have grown in by the age of 11, 12 or 13.
