What Is Sleep Apnea?

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is typically identified as continual pauses in breathing during sleep. OSA is a reaction to the muscles relaxing during sleep and gravity pulling the airway closed. If left untreated, sleep apnea in children can lead to the uncomfortable symptoms of poor sleep quality like snoring, irritability, bedwetting, and heavy mouth breathing, as well as more serious conditions like narrowed upper jaws, retruded lower jaws, and stunted growth.
